There are many reasons why a person could go bald. Other than hereditary reasons, you can also go bald as a result of illness. Male pattern baldness is a genetic trait that is actually very common. It is passed on by a female to her child and is triggered by testosterone. Hair loss begins at the forehead and then reaches the crown as it slowly progresses.
Common baldness is another name for male pattern baldness. This is the most common form of baldness in men, and is an inherited trait. Females can also develop female pattern baldness. With this type of baldness the hair becomes thin over the entire scalp, unlike with men in which the hairline slowly recedes beginning at the forehead.
Wearing ponytails, cornrows and using tight rollers can cause baldness in people. The pull on the hair can cause a type of hair loss known as traction alopecia. The only way for your hair to grow back normally is to stop th pulling before it develops scaring on the scalp. If scaring does develop on the scalp, permanent hair loss will occur. Inflammation in the hair follicle can also occur during hot oil treatments or perms. This type of inflammation can also cause scaring on the scalp and may also result in permanent hair loss.
There are a number of things that can cause excessive hair loss. For example, a major illness or surgery can cause a large amount of your hair to fall out. This form of hair loss is stress related, and is only temporary.
Many women also experience excessive hair loss about three months after giving birth due to hormonal changes. During pregnancy a woman's body will produce hormones that will allow her to keep hair that normally would not be there. After giving birth the production of these hormones cease, and hair loss will occur.
